Back in 2009, when I was a VTC (Video teleconference) technician, I was managing the organization’s conference room via emails. Someone would shoot me a message asking if the room was free, I’d check my Outlook calendar (or a spreadsheet…I can’t remember) and then respond with a “yes” or a “no, what other dates would work”?

At the time, this seemed normal.

Then, one day, I was introduced to SharePoint by an external contracting team. In particular, my guy Hunter asked me if I wanted to create a scheduling system on SharePoint where people could sign up for the room on their own.

I was intrigued!

He said, they could go to a calendar, check the availability, schedule it and then I’d get an automated email with all the details. All I’d have to do is show up and handle the tech.

I was kinda blown away that this was even a thing. I said “sign me up”!

From there, the rest is history.

These days, I try to transfer that same feeling I had when Hunter showed me I could make my job easier by automating a portion of it.
